I studied counselling and psychotherapy for 6 years and have obtained two degrees; I have a BSc Hons in Counselling and Psychotherapy Principles and Practices and an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy... Basically I studied therapy for a long-time! And believe that my in-depth educational background has enabled me to deeply understand the practicalities and delivery of therapy and therefore, can be a better therapist for my clients.
I provided therapy in a domestic abuse charity for several years, helping both men and women who have endured domestic abuse. I also delivered a government funded mental health programme for individuals in employment, supporting people with their mental health in the workplace. In addition to my current private practice clients, I also provide therapy in the private healthcare sector, where I provide both short-term solution focused therapy and in-depth trauma informed therapy.
Essentially, my experience of working both short-term and long-term with clients, has enabled me to adapt a very flexible and adaptable way of working with clients. This means that I am equipped to work with more complex difficulties, including the implications of trauma and historic abuse. However, I am also able to provide life-changing support for those who encounter more mild-moderate challenges.
Whatever it is that's bringing you to therapy, I can provide a high quality of therapy that is entirely catered to your needs and wants. However you need our sessions to look, I will always do my best to accommodate and try to ensure that your experience of therapy with me is a positive one.
Now although I can (and do) work with a vast range of areas, naturally based on both my experience and own interests, I have certain areas that I specialise in. Primarily, my specialist areas are trauma, domestic abuse, attachment wounds/difficulties and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
As I mentioned previously, I worked in a domestic abuse setting for several years; meaning that I gained more in-depth and extensive knowledge of how to support those who have encountered domestic abuse. However, sadly with abuse, often comes trauma. We tend to find that those who have been in abusive relationships, typically have other points of trauma that they encountered throughout their lives. This means I often did (and still do) work with trauma and the catastrophic impact it can have on people's quality of life. Although trauma can be incredibly debilitating, through my experience I have found ways of helping people re-estbalish feelings of safety, processing traumatic events and being able to LIVE their lives
Through both my professional background and my own personal experiences of therapy, I have learnt ways to deeply understand, overcome and process trauma. I understand how frustrating it can be when you are stuck in the same vicious cycles and loops, despite your best efforts to break away! I also understand the frustration and disappointment when certain types of therapy just don't seem to work for you. That's why I have committed my work to truly understanding the complexities of these specialist areas, to give my clients the best possible chance of benefiting from our work together.
So, are you tired of repeating the same harmful cycles? Of feeling overwhelmed with difficult emotions? Of being anchored in past traumas? Of surviving and not living? I am here to tell you that not only is it possible to overcome life's adversities and become the very best version of yourself; but that I can help you in making this possible!
